Steelworks and Frames

Welded Frames and Structures

Project Brief

This section highlights a range of steelwork and structural framework projects delivered by SPM Mechanical Engineering, from standalone frame designs to complex structural elements forming part of larger engineering solutions. Combining practical fabrication knowledge with detailed CAD design, each project is developed to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and seamless transition from concept through to manufacture and installation.

Our Process

Connect

We are regularly commissioned to design steelwork and structural frameworks, ranging from large structural assemblies to precision welded plate constructions, tailored to specific project requirements.

Create

Designs begin in SolidWorks using 3D sketches and standard steel profiles, often supported by site surveys and layout planning to ensure accurate fit and efficient installation.

Complete

Comprehensive manufacturing packs are provided, including technical drawings, assemblies, cut lists, DXFs, BOMs, fabrication details, and material specifications to support smooth production.

Repeat

Clients frequently return for additional steelwork projects, supported through design, fabrication, assembly, and commissioning as part of ongoing engineering partnerships.

Connect:

SPM Mechanical Engineering have been commissioned on many occasions to produce steelwork and steel framework designs. Whether that’s part of a larger project or as a standalone design, SPM Mechanical Engineering have the knowledge and ability to produce steelworks and frame designs to the highest of quality. Our work has spanned large steel framework structures, fully welded steel plate components and a combination of the two.

Create:

Regardless of the type of project undertaken, steel frameworks generally begin life in SolidWorks as a 3 dimensional sketch. The sketch elements are then populated using standard steel profiles, end treatments are defined and the result is a fully designed steel framework. When designing steel frameworks for installation within a facility, a site survey with initial layout drawing will usually be conducted in order to capture the space available for the install. Our steel plate construction projects generally feature tab and slot details which make assembly much quicker and final product precision much greater.

Complete:

Our steelwork and frame projects are always supplied with a comprehensive manufacturing pack allowing designs to move seamlessly into production.

The manufacturing pack contains:

  • Technical Drawings.
  • Assembly Drawings.
  • Cut Lists.
  • Flat pattern DXF profiles of all components.
  • Full BOMs.
  • Post fabrication machining details and technical drawings.
  • Post fabrication stress relieving information.
  • Full material specifications and finishes.
  • Fabrication details and any specific welding operations required.
  • For larger projects, consideration of fabrication and transportation capacity and positioning of subsequent frame assembly points.
