Specialist Projects

Four Lane Vacuum Conveyor

Project Brief

This project formed part of a larger international collaboration, involving the redesign of a vacuum conveyor system used to transfer credit cards prior to laser marking. Working alongside a German specialist manufacturer, SPM Mechanical Engineering adapted an existing conveyor design and developed a bespoke adjustable platform to meet precise operational requirements and ensure seamless integration within the wider production process.

Our Process

Connect

We were tasked with redesigning a standard vacuum conveyor and creating an adjustable support platform to handle credit cards accurately during transfer ahead of laser marking.

Create

Using shared SolidWorks models, we modified the existing conveyor design to suit new dimensions and performance requirements, alongside developing a fully integrated adjustable platform.

Complete

Final assembly models and manufacturing information were produced, including technical drawings, flat pattern DXFs, and BOMs, supporting manufacture and seamless integration within the wider system.

Repeat

We continue to support clients with specialist equipment design, delivering bespoke solutions for complex applications across a range of industries.

Connect:

As part of a larger project, SPM Mechanical Engineering would work alongside a company in Germany to design a 4 lane driven vacuum conveyor capable of transferring credit cards prior to marking using lasers. The German manufacturer of specialist vacuum equipment produced a standard vacuum conveyor but it was not ideally suited to the final application. SPM Mechanical Engineering were tasked with redesigning this standard conveyor and fully designing an adjustable platform which would support the credit cards during transfer.

Create:

The German manufacturer shared the 3D CAD model of the standard vacuum conveyor with SPM Mechanical Engineering. Within SolidWorks, we started to manipulate the design of the individual elements of this conveyor until we ultimately redesigned it to suit the new requirements and dimensions. We now had a final conveyor design that was ready to be transferred back to the company in Germany for manufacture. Once happy with the final design, we began the design of the adjustable platform that could be seamlessly integrated within the conveyor design.

Complete:

A full SolidWorks assembly model of the final vacuum conveyor design, including all modified parts and bought out items, was transferred back to the German manufacturer ready for them to prepare the design for manufacture. SPM Mechanical Engineering were then responsible for producing the manufacturing information required to successfully produce the adjustable platform. All technical drawings, assembly drawings, flat pattern DXFs and BOMs were produced and the platform manufactured and assembled as part of the larger project. When ready, the platform was assembled to the conveyor seamlessly.
